This poem is a tongue-in-cheek imagining of what the advertising for a men’s fashion outlet in Cuderth might look like.
Cuderth Enterprises
All ovver Yorkshire
Bloakes want to luk reight gud
An’ dressed fancy like,
Even in Grimey,
But moist on ’em can’t mek the minds up
Two days on t’trot.
Here at Cuderth Enterprises of Albert Avenue
We’re known al o’er t’world
Ponty. Donny, thee just name it,
An’ we’ll wuk fur anyone uz.
We’re reight famous at mekkin’ clobber
An’ folks ‘ere’ ‘ll flog poncey gear
To anyone wi’ enuff brass to buy it.
Aye, we’ll mek owt uz
Cos we’re ded gud at it.
Brainy bloakes as went to t’gramma skoil
Or t’ard cases as went to Cuderth secondry modern
All buy are stuff an’ luk ded smart.
We’ve great colours anarl
Steel grey, coil black an’ Shafton green.
Five words sums uz up
WE MEK WOT BLOAKES WANT.
Just reight to wear for a pint at t’Dards,Albert, Vic and t’Star or at Village or West End clubs. Decent for a neet art at t’pictures at t’Rock anarl.

That 50 odd years flew by.
I’m not really a poet. Ken put a concept to poetry. Although if the Poet Lorry Ut (PLU) position were waved about I might be interested, I have a bit of spare time at the moment. However I’m not sure how a PLU based in Sydney would go down with the upper class establishment in Barnsley.
Congratulations on your writing career. Who would have thought that you and Ken would become accomplished writers 55 years ago in the world of 5B. Ken kindly sent me a copy of your book ‘Bugs in Amber’ which arrived today. Its going to be my Xmas read. Apologies for the delay in replying. I looked at Ken’s site again yesterday and saw your comment.
By the way my ball juggling talents have diminished somewhat with crap knees, hips and age.
Well it’s close to midnight and Xmas day in Oz so I’ll sign off and wish you and your family a Merry Xmas and a happy new year.
Cheers

Fantastic to hear from you, Alan. Hope you are well, knees apart. All that sport! We thought it was good for us but it’s payback time now. Still. Wouldn’t have missed it. Just hope someone invents socks that pull themselves up soon.
Hope you enjoy something in the book. It’s not a career, just something I wanted to do.
Keep in touch. I think we were very good together in midfield. Your skill & my clogging.
Very Best Wishes to you.
